End of Year 6th Grade Celebration Field Trip!

End of Year 6th Grade Celebration Field Trip!

The 6th grade is doing a BBQ and potluck in Golden Gate Park on Thursday.  Students have been working hard in their math classes to come up with a food plan that will feed everyone and that fits our school budget.  In addition, Ms. Glenn's classes made maps of the park and Ms. Roberds' classes designed fliers about the trip (see below).

The following designs were made by Gabriel M., Abdullah A., Joel G., Trinadee S., Joey M., Briahna D, and Yen N.

We hope that all 6th grade students will join us!  We also would like to invite parents and guardians to contribute to the potluck!  If you have a dish, snacks, or drinks to share, then please send them to school with your son or daughter on Thursday, 5/25.

Enrollment Letters/ May Placement Period

Round 2 May Placement Period letters will be mailed May 12

If you have applied for the first time or submitted an amended application form for the May Placement Period, your offer letter will be mailed on May 12. You must go to the school and register for your new school assignment by May 24 to save your spot. If you would like to continue with the assignment process or join the waitlist for a higher-choice school, read more about our waiting pool process. The Available School Assignment Process (ASAP) for students without a school assignment will begin in June 14.

Register for school by April 21

Placement letters were mailed on March 20, and you should have received your assignment letter in the mail by now. If not, please bring a picture ID and one proof of address to the Educational Placement Center to request a duplicate letter. The Educational Placement Center is located at 555 Franklin Street and is open Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Find out what to do after receiving your initial offer, or learn about the May Placement Period if you need to submit a new or revised application.

March 20 update on assignment offer letters

This is an update for families who submitted applications by January 13, 2017 for an SFUSD school assignment. We are on track to send assignment letters via first class mail on Monday evening, March 20. Families should receive letters starting on Tuesday, March 21. The registration deadline has been extended by a week to April 21.

Please do not come to the Educational Placement Center for information about your assignment, as staff will not have any information on Monday regarding assignments.

We recognize that you may be deciding next steps regarding independent and private schools. Please note that no information about assignments will be available before March 21. If you need information before your letter arrives, please email, and we will do what we can to help you after March 21.

We are truly sorry for the delay.

Delay in Round One assignment offers

SFUSD school assignment letters, which were scheduled to be mailed out by March 17, will be delayed. We apologize for the inconvenience, as we know parents are counting on getting this news in the next few days. District staff need more time to run all of the necessary checks. Please be assured that we are working around the clock and are aiming for the shortest possible delay. Once the letters are ready to go, we will be sure to notify you. We will also be announcing revised dates, as we will be adjusting the registration period. We are extremely sorry for the impact that this delay may cause.

Free Lunch for all Students by Community Eligibility Provision

Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) is a federal provision that allows eligible schools to offer free meals to attending students regardless of individual income.  CEP eliminates the burden of collecting household applications to determine eligibility for school meals, relying instead on information from other means-tested programs.

Welcome to Dr. Martin Luther King, jr. Academic Middle School, 2016-2017!!!!

August 3, 2016

Greetings Families and Students,

We would like to welcome the returning 7th and 8th grade students and the incoming 6th graders to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Academic Middle School’s 2016-2017 school year.  I hope everyone had a restful and fun summer.

Many changes were implemented last year to make MLK Middle School student-centered, family friendly, and accessible to the community at large. Those changes had a tremendous impact on the overall academic performance of students, increased transparency between the administration and families, and engaging multiple community stakeholders in the learning community at MLK Middle School. This year promises to bring more excitement as we build upon the successes from last year.

We look forward to growing the capacity of MLK Middle School and becoming the premier middle school in the district. Our efforts begin with parent involvement and participation in shaping the future of your children. We anticipate you joining our PTA, attending bi-monthly Coffee Chats (every 1st and 3rd Fridays at 8:45-9:45am) between administrators and parents, volunteering in classes and on field trips, and adding your voice to the overall MLK Middle School community.

We will see your child on Monday, August 15, 2016. Breakfast for students will be available at 8am. Homeroom begins at 8:30 sharp.

For 6th grade families, orientation is Monday, August 15, 8:30 - 10:00am. Families will meet the 6th grade teachers, staff and learn more about MLK and the resources we offer.

The bell schedule is attached. Please note we will be releasing students early every 3rd Friday at 1pm. Our Beacon Extended Learning Program will be open at 1pm for 3rd Fridays.
